Prairie Green School opened its doors August 18, 2011 to all children ages 5-12 years old. This unique non-profit school provides the Iowa City area with a year-round holistic schooling option. We are located at The Cosgrove Institute, which was once a church school built in 1913. We rent two classrooms and have access to the library, kitchen, gymnasium, performing stage and many acres of green space.
What is so exciting about Prairie Green is each day is a new day. Even though students have a weekly plan designed for them, students are encourage to ask questions, voice interest, and solve problems. Almost every situation can be turned into a learning opportunity if the students are questioning things around them. Students see it as exploring "cool" things but as teachers we know they are forming a love of learning.
